Subject: Siemens A55 data transfer cable

I lost my CD with the software for my Siemens A55 USB transfer cable. I would like to know if there is an Internet page from where I could download it.

Thank you very much!

Hi Dan,

Are you sure you mean the A55? As far as I know this phone does not connect to a PC by USB?

I am guessing that you mean the S55, as the “A” and “S” keys are next to each other on the keyboard.

If I have guessed correctly, then you need the page below: http://communications.siemens.com/cds/frontdoor/0,2241,hq_en_0_15784_rArNrNrNrN_variation%253A-5_pageType%253Adownloads_imagePos%253A0,00.html#PC%20Software%20and%20Drivers

Go down the page to “Siemens Data Suite” and you can download the software as a ZIP file, although it is still pretty large at over 33 MB!

Get back to me if it wasn’t the S55 you were referring to.

From Dan G:

Yes it is the A55 that I want the software for my USB cable.

Thank you very much!

Hi there again Dan,

Sorry if I misunderstood you, but I still believe I am correct in my first impressions that the A55 is not designed to connect to a PC by USB cable. I have read through the A55 User Guide, and there is no mention in it about connecting a cable for data transfer. Before going further please check the page below and make sure you do have the A55 as listed by Siemens:

http://communications.siemens.com/cds/frontdoor/0,2241,hq_en_0_15194_rArNrNrNrN_variation%253A-5_pageType%253ADescription_imagePos%253A0,00.html#content

If you follow their link to “Accessories”, you will see that Siemens do not sell a data cable for the A55, which usually indicates that it does not support that feature.

The A55 has been around for a couple of years now, so I would expect that Siemens would be selling a cable if the phone supported data transfer by USB. There is also no software download on the Siemens website for connecting the A55 to a PC, which is again an indication that the phone does not have this feature.

I did not give up there. I went looking on the Forums to see what information there was about cables. I found on one Forum:

‘a55 doesn’t work with data cable cell phone does not support pc’

On another Forum I found:

‘I have original data cable, but I can’t do nothing with it>> Please HELP>>Send me answer’s PLEASE and is there Data Exchange Soft for Siemens A55????? PLEASE HELP HELP’

Answer: ‘A50/A55 doesn’t support data cable man...sorry.’

Having said the above, I did try my best to find some information that might help you, and I came across some comments on a Forum that there may be some unofficial way to modify the phone. I am not sure this is a good idea, but if you want to follow it up go to: http://www.cellbanter.com/q-t_75365-Siemens-A55-data-cable.html

However, where you would get the software to support this arrangement I cannot tell you, as it is unlikely that Siemens would have it available as a download.

Sorry, but that’s the best I can do.

From Dan G:

Hello,

Now I have another problem. I wanted to make from my a55 a C55 and wrote the emprom file on the bootcore. Now the phone won’t do anything, not even start. Freia is saying that bootcore seems not to be running.

Can you help me please?

Thank you very much

Hi Dan,

I do not think I can help you to get out of this problem.

I didn’t read all the details about the conversion from a A55 to a C55, because the Mobile Phone Directory do not approve of modifying phones in this way, and that is why I said in my last email that ‘I am not sure this is a good idea’.

You will find lots of people on the Forums exchanging ideas for messing about with their phones, but this can be a dangerous thing if it causes the phone to die. I now regret sending you that link, because I think you have overwritten the EPROM, and will not now be able to restore the phone to the way it was before. It is likely to be too difficult or expensive to recover your phone now. I found this story of a similar experience: http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=190620&highlight=a55

From my understanding of this conversion, it looks like the information was either wrong, or the modification to a C55 may not work in all cases.

I have spent over 2 hours trying to find information to help you with your A55, but I believe the best solution is to find a phone that does what you want, rather than trying to modify your phone. You seemed determined to get your A55 to work with a data cable, even though it was never designed to do that. In your position I would have bought a phone that fully supported data cable transfer, and then you would have no troubles like this.

Thank you very much.

I just wanted to tell you that I successfully transformed my a55 into a c55 and the data cable works perfectly.

Thank you!

Hi Dan,

I was really pleased to hear that you managed to get your phone working OK. As you could read in my last email, I thought your phone was dead! I hope you can now perform all the transfers you want with the cable, and that you get good use from it.

Contact us again if you have any more problems.
