Synchronising data with Sony Ericsson T610

Subject: Synchronising data with T610

Could you please tell me how I can store my phone address book online? I have a T610 Sony Ericsson, it's giving me problems and I need to get another one but I'm worried about my address book, as it is stored on the phone itself. Any suggestions would come in handy. I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi Victoria,

I appreciate the problem you describe. It is always a good idea to keep back-up copies of your important data, as it is pretty catastrophic to realise that all your phone numbers, addresses, diary appointments, etc have suddenly been lost due to some technical fault with your phone, or because you were unfortunate enough to have the phone stolen.

Most of the Service Providers offer the T610, so I am not sure which company you are with. If you want to store your phone address book online, then this should be possible as the T610 supports remote synchronisation using SyncML (see our glossary entry if this is a bit too technical). However, your particular company must provide that service, and they should be able to tell you how to set up an online address book - you may need to subscribe to this.

Fortunately the T610 also contains several other means to transfer your data to other equipment, such as to a computer or Personal Digital Assistant. You should be aware that your phone can send data wirelessly by Bluetooth and infrared, or by using a cable (either a USB or RS232 cable will work). I would suggest, assuming you have access to a computer, that you should keep a back-up copy of your data on your computer, and you can then download the addresses, etc onto any new phone that you purchase. If you do not have a Bluetooth or infrared facility on your computer, then most computers should accept a cable connection. You may already have a cable supplied when you bought the phone, but they are readily available if you need to buy one.

If you refer to the 'Synchronisation' section in your User Guide, there is a little bit of information on what you can do to set up a back up copy of your phone book or calendar. If you do not have a copy of the User Guide then you can download a PDF version directly from the Sony Ericsson website, try: www.sonyericsson.com/spg.jsp?cc=global&lc=en&ver=4001&template=ps1_1&zone=ps&lm=ps1_1&pid=10055

I hope the above is helpful, but get back to me if you need any more information.
