PlayFon Extends Reach in CIS
Skip contentMoscow - Almaty - Kiev, May 15: PlayFon, an international provider of wireless entertainment launched operations in Kazakhstan through two biggest local GSM operators’ networks K’Cell and KaR-Tel. PlayFon’s office located in Almaty will coordinate its activities in the largest Central Asia country. Kazakhstan became the seventh state in the list of countries PlayFon offers its products and services (Russia, UK, Ukraine, Sweden, Lithuania and Estonia). The company has offices in Moscow, Stockholm, Kiev, Almaty and Hong Kong.
Currently, the number of subscribers in Kazakhstan exceeds 5 million people. PlayFon’s partners K’Cell and KaR-Tel control over 95% of the market and continue rapidly expanding their offering throughout the country. Although the penetration rate in Kazakhstan stands at 35%, quick subscriber and prosperity growth suggests Kazakhstan VAS market being one of the most promising in the area.

In the end of April PlayFon kicked off vending operations in the network of a rapidly developing Ukrainian carrier Astelit, that offers its services under life:) brand name. After PlayFon’s plugging into life:) network the provider’s products and services became available to all Ukrainian subscribers. Back in June 2005 PlayFon penned agreements with two biggest local mobile operators UMC and KyivStar.
Presently, subscriber base amounts to 3.3 million people. The company operates in all Ukrainian regions. Within one year life:) increased its market share to 10 percent. Being a true innovation leader in the Ukrainian market, Astelit puts a great emphasis on VAS segment and non-voice services.
