LG L1100 restricted message

Subject: LG L1100 Restricted message

Dear Sir,

I have a LG L1100 Orange mobile phone, and I am in Bangladesh. Whenever I have been trying to use my local vendor's SIM cards, like Grameen Phone, an error message is given. The error message is 'Phone Restricted'. For your information, using a Bangladeshi SIM card, I can receive phone calls but I can't make a call.

Would you please give me instructions on how can I make the phone usable.

Your early reply in this regard would be highly appreciated. Regards, Tafazzal.

Hello Tafazzal,

The Orange LG L1100 is a tri-band phone and so it should work in Bangladesh.

I see that in Bangladesh you use the 900 MHz frequency channel for mobile phones. To be sure that your phone is using the correct frequency, check under 'Menu' > 'Select Network' and set the phone to either Automatic or Manual (900).

I know that the LG L1100 is an exclusive Orange handset, so I expect that you did not buy it in Bangladesh. As this phone was designed to be used on the Orange network, it is possible that there are software differences that could cause problems on other networks. I am not sure that there are software problems, but it is maybe something you should consider.

I also visited the LG website for Bangladesh at www.lgservice.com/index_b2c.jsp. It appears that LG does not have support for their phones in Bangladesh, so you may find it difficult getting service for this phone in your country.

After looking at all the possible causes of your problem, I think the most likely reason why your phone is coming up with a 'phone restricted' message is because the phone is locked. Several things could cause this, for example the SIM card may not be compatible with the phone, or you may have entered the wrong PIN number.

There are several websites that specialise in phone unlocking. Just put a search into Google for 'phone unlock' and you will find a number of companies that offer an unlock service - so you can unlock your phone by email (for a fee). The only company I found that definitely say they can unlock a L1100 is this one below: www.mobtec.net/unlock_form/LG/L1100.php

However, I think the best action for you is to contact your local network - you say you bought the SIM card from Grameen Phone - and they should be able to give you the code to unlock the phone. If it is not possible to unlock the phone easily, then Grameen Phone should still be the best company to sort out the problem. The SIM card gives you access to your local phone network and so your network must be able to help you.

I hope that I have given you the information that you need, but if I can do more then please write again.
