How do I unlock a phone?
Skip contentThe user with the locked phone will contact the unlocking company, and they generate the unlock code for you. This unlock code should then appear on the users phone screen after payment. Companies who unlock phones will ask you for some simple information about the phone, such as:
- Â Your mobiles phone number
- The network (and country) to which the phone is locked
- Manufacturer and model number
- The phones IMEI number (see below)
NB The phones IMEI number is a 15 digit serial number - you can find this by typing *#06# on the phones keypad and it will appear on your phones screen. The IMEI number is usually also printed somewhere in the battery compartment of the phone. Be sure that you send the correct IMEI number to the unlocking company, as the software that calculates your unlock code will only work if the IMEI is the one for your phone. Each phone has a unique IMEI number, i.e. no two phones can have the same IMEI. This is why getting this number right is important to unlocking your particular phone.
Once you have sent off the required information and payment, the only operation then necessary is that you are able to correctly enter the code supplied by the unlocking company.
