Will my current network be upset if I unlock my phone?

If you request your provider to unlock your phone, then they may charge you a high price to do this, as they do not want their customers to be lost to their rivals. So, you can imagine that this is something the providers do not want you to do, as it costs them money. However, if you have a contract with a provider, then they are still receiving a regular monthly fee from you, no matter how often you use your phone. But assuming you have no contract restricting you to a particular provider, then there is no reason why you should suffer any consequences from the provider if you unlock your phone. It also seems to be the case that the provider has no way of knowing if you have unlocked your phone.
