Samsung Infrared connection problem
Skip contentSubject: Infrared connection problem on Samsung phone

I want to know how to make my infrared connection active with my computer, in order to move my photos or other data. I can activate infrared in the menu of the phone, but then I can’t enter it again in the phone menu, and it shows this message: “remove any data cable or IRDA connection”.
Please let me know what to do, because I need to use my Infrared connection, as it is one of the main reasons I bought this type of mobile phone. I don’t want to be disappointed from this technology branch or with “Samsung”.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Irena

Hi Irena,
You do not say what phone you have, or what sort of computer set up you own, and whether you have Windows XP. Therefore, I cannot be sure that my comments below will apply to your problem or not.
Firstly, I assume that you have followed the instructions for setting up the phone. On the Samsung website they give instructions on how to make infrared work:
For Infrared follow these steps:
1.Activate infrared on the phone (phone settings-infrared active)
2.Line up with infrared port on PC.
3.Start “Easy Studio PIMS and File Manager”.
4.Click on FILE then SETUP and change the port to infrared.
5.Click OK and the PC will scan all the data from the phone.
6.Click on TOOL and FILE MANAGER to transfer files. The phone files are displayed on the top half of the screen and the PC hard drive is displayed on the bottom of the screen.
7.Select the photo in the top section.
8.Select a destination on the bottom section.
9.Click on the DOWN arrow and the file will transfer
NB: If you do not have the latest version of Easy Studio it can be downloaded at:

Manuals for using EasyStudio are also downloadable on the page given above. A short explanation of Easy GSM and Easy Studio is given in the link below:

I noticed, when looking for similar problems to yours, that a number of Samsung phone owners have experienced problems getting their phones to work with the infrared port on their computer, and some people said they got the same error message that you mention.
In at least some of these cases it seems that there may be a problem with using the Samsung IrDA software on a Windows XP computer with Service Pack 2 installed (apparently Service Pack 1 works OK with the IrDA port). You could try uninstalling the SP2 from XP by going to Control panel, and then selecting the add/remove programs to remove SP2. If this cures the problem then it at least shows there was a software non-compatibility.
If you do not wish to uninstall Service Pack 2 from Windows XP, some Samsung users have found that installing the IRComm2k software from the link below makes the infrared port work:
You can check details about IRComm2k on the above website page, which includes an online manual. You may also like to look at the information about Samsung phones in their Forum (just put in a search for “Samsung”).
If you continue to have problems then I guess you could always use a data cable instead of infrared? Anyway, get back to me if you have more trouble and I will see if I can help you further.
