Flash Memory
Skip contentFlash Memory is a type of EEPROM (Electrically Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory) used in PC Cards and Memory Cards. This type of memory is non-volatile and is often used to store data in devices such as mobile phones, notebook computers, PDAs, and digital cameras. The memory is called 'flash' because multiple memory locations can be written or erased in a single action.
As flash memory is written and erased in 'blocks' of memory, this means equipment using it can operate more quickly when required to read and write several locations at the same time. After a certain number of erasure cycles flash memory devices will eventually wear out, although for most practical applications this is unlikely to be a problem.
