Loudspeaker

Also known as: Speakerphone

Speakerphone (or loudspeaker) is a small component fitted within a mobile phone, or other communication device, which is used to amplify a caller's voice so that it is not necessary for the user to hold the handset to their ear. A speakerphone will enable the user to deal with calls hands-free, and it also supports the setting up of conference calls with others in the same room.

Devices featuring a speakerphone are able to amplify ringtones, music, audio clips, recorded messages, and games sounds to enhance the potential uses of the mobile phone, or other similar device. However, a speakerphone will consume more power, and so will drain the battery more quickly than an earpiece.
