TFD

Also known as: Thin Film Diode

TFD (Thin Film Diode) is an emitting display technology invented in the 1960s. A TFD display consists of diodes sandwiched between glass or some other substrate; as this allows the diode for a pixel to be individually activated, provides good refresh rates can be achieved and ghosting is very low. Power consumption is as low as conventional STN which makes TFD displays suitable for mobile devices.

TFD is an active matrix technology very similar to thin film transistor. Although thin film diode is cheaper, it's hard to get a colour depth greater than 65,000 tones with it.
