LG U8120 mobile phone
Skip contentLG U8120 is a dual mode clamshell cameraphone designed to work on the 3G and GSM networks (dual band). This is an exclusive handset to the “3” network, and it is an upgraded version of LG’s first 3G model, the U8110. At 126g the U8120 is still one of the lightest and smallest 3G phones currently available. The most noticeable change from the earlier model is that the internal memory has been increased significantly, from 14 MB to a much more useful 32 MB. There are many other good features included in this mobile phone, among them the integrated GPRS and WAP technology, video calling, MMS multimedia messaging, video and audio streaming, video recording download and playback, an MP3 player, sound recorder (voice messages up to 60 seconds can be recorded), Java™ enabled, speakerphone for hands-free conversations, active flip, LED flashlight, and an e-mail client.
The U8120 has dual LCD displays, with the large internal screen offering a resolution of 176 x 220 pixels, and this also has the capability to reproduce up to 65,536 different colours. The advantage of a high definition screen is that it gives the user a clear view of the phone’s menus, and it provides a suitable display to look at any pictures and videos that are captured or downloaded. During video calls the internal screen also displays the user’s picture, as well as that of the person at the other end of the call. The smaller external monochrome display is a 64 x 96 pixels screen, and this shows useful details such as the time, caller identity, battery condition, and network status.
One of the main features of this phone is its integrated camera, which doubles up for still pictures and video, and it is capable of VGA quality photographs (640 x 480 pixels). Other useful features of the camera are its 2x digital zoom, adjustable exposure setting, a multishot picture option, and a photo editor to edit your pictures. The camera can rotate through 180 degrees, which is important when the phone is used for video calls as you can point the lens either towards or away from you, so showing your contact the view you want them to see. Pictures and video taken with the camera can be sent to your contacts in MMS messages or in e-mails; for example, you can send a picture and audio file or a video file in an MMS message.
With its 3G technology, the U8120 allows you to make good use of streamed video and audio, and you will be able to appreciate the many services now available via mobile phone, including live news, weather, travel, sports, entertainment, stock market prices, etc. Music on the move is also possible with the integrated MP3 player, which means you can download the audio tracks you want to listen to. The downloading and playing of video clips is another feature that will appeal to some users, and with a capacity of 32 MB this model has enough internal memory for the storage of a reasonable amount of music, pictures or video clips. However, there is no expansion slot for a memory card if more memory is required.
For users who like to personalise their phones, there is the possibility to change the wallpapers, screensavers and ringtones, to give a different sound and look to this model. When you want to customise the phone with new content, then more pictures and ringtones may be downloaded from the service provider, as you need them.
As the U8120 is Java™ enabled, it can run a wide range of Java applications and games. Although no games come preloaded in the U8120, it is easy and quick to download games and new applications when you want to use them.
With its integrated GPRS data transfer technology, this phone provides you with fast access to the network and an “always on” connection, and the WAP browser makes it easy to use the mobile Internet. There is also a dedicated “3” key for the quick, one-touch access to the 3 portal, where users will be able to find the online services offered by the network provider. An e-mail client is included, which enables you to use the standard e-mail services, and this feature supports the normal IMAP4 and SMTP protocols.
The U8120 can be connected to compatible IrDA equipment by using its wireless infrared port, or alternatively you can make a wired connection using a USB data cable. Once connected it is then possible to synchronise your personal information such as schedules and phonebook contents with a PC or PDA, or you may exchange information and files including video, pictures or sounds. This phone supports remote synchronisation via the network using SyncML.
Good organiser facilities are provided for in the U8120, including a Calendar, To Do list, Memo, Calculator, World Clock, Alarms, Timer, and Unit Converter (including currency). The phone has the usual features of a vibration alert and T9™ predictive text input.
