Motorola V180 mobile phone

Motorola V180 is a tri-band mobile phone, and as such is a suitable model for roaming in most countries of the world. This phone has a clamshell style of body and is aimed at somebody who does not need all the latest technological gizmos, so it does not have Bluetooth™ or an integrated camera, for example. However, there are plenty of other useful features to attract buyers, and the phone has that simple but elegant appearance that Motorola has become famous for. This model includes the following features: GPRS and WAP data handling technology, MMS multimedia messaging, voice memo recorder, speakerphone for hands-free conversations, Java™ enabled, voice control, and a selection of polyphonic and MP3 ringtones.

Motorola V180In common with other clamshell phones there are dual displays on the V180, which helps to keep the user informed about the phone’s status. The internal LCD screen is of a reasonable size to view the menus and pictures that this phone can handle, having a resolution of 128 x 128 pixels, and the ability to reproduce up to 65,536 different colours. The smaller external LCD screen is a monochrome type, and this is used for viewing such information as signal strength, battery condition, and the time, as well as to let you know who is calling before you open the phone.

Although there is no integrated camera to take your own pictures from this phone, it does support MMS messaging, and so you have a choice of either re-using the images that you are sent in messages, or you can download images over-the-air via WAP to help you create your own MMS message. You can exchange MMS messages with other compatible phones, and this enables you to send and receive multimedia messages containing a combination of pictures, animations, sounds or voice records, as well as text. The sounds and voice records you use in these MMS messages may be captured using the phone’s own digital sound recorder. You can also use picture ID on this phone, to identify your caller, although without a camera you will obviously have to find your pictures from other sources.

As with many other mobile phones, there is the ability to personalise the V180 to match your own taste, by making use of different wallpapers, screensavers, or ringtones. It is both quick and easy to download new content, when you wish to find some more unusual ringtones and pictures to enhance the way this phone looks and sounds. This model also comes supplied with Motorola’s MotoMixer™ remixable ringtone application, which provides you with the tools to create your own unique ringtones. Another option is to change the phone’s outer lens (the cover for the outer display), and this offers you the chance to give the phone a new look.

Being Java™ enabled, the V180 offers the user the opportunity to run a wide range of different Java applications and games. There are 2 games preloaded in the phone - Hungry Fish and Skipping Stones - and you have the option to download new games and applications when you tire of these, or you need to use some new program to help you at home or in the office.

The V180 has integrated GPRS technology, meaning that you get faster access to the network services, and the benefit of an “always on” connection. The WAP 2.0 browser is another valuable asset, enabling you to make use of the mobile Internet to access all the WAP site services you might need, such as news, sport, weather, traffic, entertainment, stock markets, and other online services.

Connectivity to this phone is via a mini USB data connector and cable, which is available as an optional accessory. When you have established a connection to compatible equipment, for example to your home or office PC, you are then able to exchange data between the two devices, and you might transfer pictures and sounds to or from the phone. You can also make use of this data cable connection to synchronise the personal information in your calendar and phonebook with that on your PC.

The V180 comes supplied with several useful organiser facilities, including a calendar, clock, alarm, calculator, and currency converter. The phone comes with the other usual features you would expect, such as iTAP predictive text input and a vibration alert.
