Motorola V220 mobile phone

Motorola V220 is a tri-band cameraphone suitable for global roaming, and it comes in an attractive silver finish clamshell case. This is a phone at the budget end of the Motorola range, but it still has a number of advanced features, including GPRS and WAP technology, MMS multimedia messaging, the capability to download and play MPEG4 video clips, a speakerphone for hands-free conversations, Java™ enabled, voice control, and good choice of polyphonic ringtones.

Motorola V220The display in the V220 is a 128 x 128 pixel resolution screen, and this can reproduce up to 65,536 different colours. As with most clamshell mobile phones these days, an external display is provided to show you useful information when the phone is closed, such as the time, the battery condition, signal strength, as well as to alert you about incoming calls. The internal screen is adequate - although not particularly large compared to other recent phones - and this is used to display the phone’s menus, pictures you wish to view, and it acts as the screen when playing games. You can also view downloaded MPEG4 video clips on the phone’s internal screen.

There is also an integrated VGA quality digital Camera in the phone, which is capable of taking pictures up to a maximum resolution of 640 x 480 pixels. The camera has a 4x digital zoom, as well as adjustable exposure settings, and a mirror and timer are provided to assist with the taking of self-portraits. You can also take pictures of your friends and use them in the phone’s picture phonebook, so that you can see which of them is calling when the phone rings.

As the V220 has MMS capability, you can send and receive multimedia messages that contain a combination of photos, pictures, animations, sounds, voice records, and/or video clips, and then exchange these messages with other compatible MMS enabled phones. More visual and audio content can also be downloaded over-the-air, or from a PC, to be used in your messages, or to perform some personalisation of how your phone looks and sounds. You can even experiment with new ringtones by creating your own sound with the MotoMixer™ remixable ringer software.

Being Java™ enabled means that this phone is capable of running a wide range of Java games and application programs. Two Java games are preloaded, Hungry Fish© and OptItOut©, but more games and applications may be downloaded, as you require them.

An important feature in this phone is the integrated GPRS technology, which provides an “always on” connection, and this gives you fast access to the network services. An added bonus is that you only pay for the actual data you use, rather than the length of time that you are connected to the network. The WAP browser allows you to access and make use of the mobile Internet, and the mobile phone user now has some good services available to give them what they need while travelling around, including news, sports, weather, traffic, entertainments, shopping, online banking, business and market news, and much more.

For connectivity the V220 has a cable link via a mini USB connector, which allows you to exchange data with a compatible PC or PDA. Once connected it is easy to transfer information, files, pictures, sounds, etc, with the other device, and the optional Mobile Phonetools software is available to communicate, synchronise, and provide the tools you need to organise your information and files.

A range of useful organiser functions and tools is also provided in this phone, including a datebook (calendar), alarm clock, calculator, and currency converter. An optional accessory is the FM stereo radio headset, which is available for those who want to add some music on their journey, and this accessory also allows you to stay in touch with your favourite radio channels.
