Nokia 5140 mobile phone

Nokia 5140 is a tri-band mobile phone for global use, and it comes in a candy bar style format. This phone has a push-to-talk capability, and it is the world’s first GSM push-to-talk handset. Push-to-talk is the new real-time Voice over IP service that is being implemented over GPRS/EDGE networks.

Nokia 5140The Nokia 5140 also has a large number of other interesting and useful features onboard, including its support for MMS, a FM stereo radio, voice memo recorder, digital compass, thermometer, decibel meter for measuring sound levels, flashlight, voice control, speakerphone for hands-free conversations, an e-mail client, and it also handles multitasking.

For viewing the menus, including the new animated menu graphics, and to display the various pictures you use, the 5140 has a screen with a resolution of 128 x 128 pixels, which can display up to 4096 different colours. The pictures you send in MMS messages can be taken with the phone’s own camera, which is a VGA quality (640 x 480 pixels) digital camera with the option to use 3 image qualities, and you can also make changes to the pictures with the internal image editor.

These days many users of mobile phones will take advantage of the multimedia messaging (MMS) capabilities of modern handsets, and with the Nokia 5140 you can exchange MMS messages with compatible devices. It is possible to send and receive messages containing text, video clips, audio clips, images, ringing tones, and graphics. The phone’s integrated video recorder and player will also come in useful for capturing some unique experiences that you wish to share with others via an MMS message.

The phone is designed for better physical durability than usual, and so the Xpress-on™ shells and keymat should provide extra protection against splashes, dust and bumps. With its enhanced durability and resistance to the elements, it is a more suitable phone for use in sports situations, and a Fitness Coach Java™ application is included to help you plan and record your sporting activities.

The phone’s appearance can be customised to personalise it by adding new graphics, icons, and logos, and these can be downloaded as well as more ringtones via a WAP site, or as part of a MMS message. There is also the ability to change the phone’s external appearance by replacing the covers, by using different Xpress-on™ shells.

The 5140 is Java™ enabled, and so it will run both Java games and a wide range of available applications. When you feel the need to use new games or applications it is easy to download these programs from a number of sites using the phone’s WAP capability.

When you wish to synchronise your personal files with other devices, such as a compatible PC or PDA, then you can do this easily by making use of one of the connectivity options. The Nokia 5140 can connect wirelessly via its infrared link, or alternatively you may prefer to make a connection using a data cable.
