Nokia 6610i mobile phone
Skip contentNokia 6610i is a tri-band camphone in the candy bar style format, which is capable of being used for global roaming. This new model is an upgraded version of the 6610, now benefiting from the addition of a digital camera and increased memory capacity. Other important features of the 6610i model are its integrated GPRS and HSCSD data handling technology, WAP, an XHTML browser, FM stereo radio, a speakerphone for hands-free conversation, Java™ enabled software for running applications and games, and a good selection of polyphonic ringtones.
The colour display is a passive matrix type of LCD, which can offer a resolution of 128 x 128 pixels and is capable of reproducing up to 4096 different colours. This screen is also able to display up to 8 lines of text, and this gives you the means to view messages and menus, as well as the definition you need to examine the images that you send and receive with this phone. As the 6610i supports MMS messaging, you may wish to combine images and sounds with the text messages you send to your contacts, which will add extra impact when you want to say something special. You can exchange MMS messages with other compatible phones or devices, and an MMS message may contain a combination of text, sound and a picture.
An integrated digital camera is fitted in the Nokia 6610i, and the camera lens is located on the back cover. This camera is capable of taking pictures up to CIF quality (i.e. 352 x 288 pixels resolution), although you have the option to select from the 3 image qualities of “high”, “normal” and “basic”. The camera is also provided with the other usual features of digital zoom, an image editor that can add several special effects, a night mode setting for taking pictures in poor light conditions, and a timer to assist with self-portraits. You can also add photographs to the phone book, and this enables you to identify the caller from the picture of their face.
The 6610i has a built-in FM stereo radio to provide you with music on the move and the chance to listen to your favourite radio stations. You can find the stations you want to listen to by using the radio’s automatic search tuning facility, or alternatively you are able to set the radio channel frequency manually. The radio can be listened to on either the headset or the phone’s internal loudspeaker, but when using the radio you must keep the headset connected as the headset lead is used as an aerial.
As on many modern phones, you are able to personalise its appearance or sound by changing the wallpapers, screensavers, icons, logos and ringtones. If you feel the need to try something fresh then new content can be easily and quickly downloaded from a Web page or in an MMS message. It is also possible to use the pictures taken with the phone’s integrated camera as your own personal wallpapers. Yet another way to customise this phone is to fit new covers from a range of changeable covers, which come in several different design schemes.
With the phone’s Java™ capability you are able to run a wide range of Java applications and games, and several applications and 2 games come preloaded in the phone. When you need to use a new application for business or personal use, or wish to play a different game, then it is easy to find and download more Java programs.
The Nokia 6610i has integrated GPRS and HSCSD data handling capability, so allowing you to make use of high speed data transfer, and this also provides you with an “always online” connection, where you pay for the amount of data you actually use rather than the time connected. Other important features of the phone are its ability to handle WAP, and the XHTML browser, which means you can gain fast access to the mobile Internet. The Web access may be particularly useful to those who want to find information and services while travelling about, as there are now many WAP sites operating, so providing you with sources of news, sports, traffic, weather, entertainment and business information and services that you may access via your phone.
There is a choice of connectivity options available in the Nokia 6610i: you may either link wirelessly to IrDA devices using the phone’s infrared port, or you can use a standard data cable connected to the phone’s Pop-Port™ connector. You can then exchange files and data, pictures or sounds, etc, with the other device. After connection you are also free to synchronise your personal information, such as phonebook entries and schedule, with a compatible PC or PDA, and software for synchronisation is provided in the PC Suite supplied with the phone. This phone also supports SyncML remote synchronisation.
