Nokia 6650 mobile phone

Nokia 6650 is a dual mode candy bar cameraphone, designed to work on the 3G and GSM (dual band) networks. The phone will automatically switch between the GSM bands and 3G networks as you roam. This model has some other important features within it, including Bluetooth™ wireless connectivity, GPRS and HSCSD data transmission technology, WAP and xHTML, video clip recording and playback, MMS multimedia messaging, Java™ enabled, speakerphone for hands-free conversation, voice memo recorder, voice control, and a selection of polyphonic ringtones.

Nokia 6650The display in this mobile phone is a TFT active matrix type of LCD, with a high resolution of 128 x 160 pixels and the ability to reproduce up to 4,096 different colours. The display provides the means to view the graphical menus, to look at pictures taken with the camera or sent in messages, and also a screen on which you can play games with the phone. Being MMS capable this phone can send and receive messages containing a combination of text combined with one video clip, one picture, and one sound clip, and these MMS messages may be up to 100 kB in size. In addition, as this phone supports multitasking, when connected to WCDMA networks you are able take photographs and send them while you talk at the same time to your contact.

The 6650 has an integrated VGA quality camera that is capable of taking still pictures with a resolution of 640 x 480 pixels. There are 3 image quality options available (high, normal and basic), and as usual it will be a trade-off that will decide the setting you prefer, between using the best quality or a lower quality to save memory for more photos. You can choose whether to use the landscape or portrait style of picture shape, and a self-timer is provided for assisting when you want to take shots including yourself. Another useful feature is the night mode setting, that adjusts the exposure to help in taking pictures in poor light conditions, and there is a handy cover that slides over the lens when not in use to protect it from damage or dirt.

The camera can also capture video at a resolution of 128 x 96 pixels, and at over 10 frames per second, and you will want to play your favourite clips many times on the screen to impress your friends. However, as video is very memory consuming, you will be limited to 15 seconds if you want to send these video clips over-the-air via an MMS message.

With its Java™ capability you can use this phone to run Java games and applications, and these may be downloaded when you want to find new or interesting programs to run. The polyphonic ringtones are another “must have” for many phone users, and with this model it is even possible to create your own ringtones with the software on the supplied CD-ROM. Other possible downloads are to add new wallpapers, screensavers and logos to your phone, so that you can add some personalisation to the look of this handset.

The 6650 has integrated GPRS and HSCSD data transmission technology to ensure fast data rates, and this has the added benefit that you get an “always on” connection, where you pay for the data you actually use rather than the length of time that you are connected. With WAP 2.0 and an xHTML browser, you are also provided with an efficient means to access the mobile Internet services, where you will find lots of useful information, such as news bulletins, sports reports, weather forecasts, shopping information, online banking, traffic news, entertainments and stock markets news.

For connectivity the 6650 has the increasingly necessary wireless Bluetooth™ technology, which enables you to link up with other compatible devices within a 10-metre range, such as other phones, laptop computers and PDAs. You also get that other useful wireless connection option of infrared, so that you can link up with IrDA compatible devices. A third option is to plug into the phone’s Pop-port™ and use a standard USB data cable connection to transfer pictures, video clips and sounds between the phone and your PC. With a connection established it is very easy to transfer files and data, and you will be able to quickly synchronise your calendar and phonebook entries.

There are the usual organiser functions provided with this phone, such as Alarm Clock, Calendar, To Do list, Wallet, as well as a calculator, countdown timer and stopwatch.
