Nokia 7610 mobile phone
Skip contentNokia 7610 is a tri-band cameraphone suitable for global roaming, and it comes housed in an unusually shaped candy bar style case. The styling of the case is carried through into the layout of the keypad, with different sized keys following curved lines, and that is one aspect which those accustomed to standard key designs might find hard to get used to.
This is Nokia’s first megapixel mobile phone, but there are many other useful features built into the handset, including its integrated Bluetooth™ connectivity, GPRS and WAP technology, MMS capability, video capture download and playback, video and audio streaming, MP3 and MPEG4 media players, RealOne Player™, voice memo recorder, reduced size MMC memory card slot, Java™ enabled, Symbian operating system, speakerphone for hands-free conversations, voice control, and an e-mail client.
The display in the 7610 is an active matrix TFT type of LCD, which has a resolution of 176 x 208 pixels, and it can also reproduce up to 65,536 different colours. The high definition display provides good viewing of the phone’s GUI menu system, and it enables you to appreciate the videos and pictures that the phone can take or download from several possible sources. As this phone has MMS capability it allows you to send and receive multimedia messages containing video, pictures, animations, sound recordings and text. However, you can only send and receive MMS messages between contacts that also have an MMS capable phone.
The Nokia 7610’s integrated camera is located on the back of the phone, and it is able to take still pictures as well as video. A major feature of the camera is that it is capable of taking still pictures of 1 megapixel resolution (1152 x 864 pixels). As MMS has a maximum attachment size of 100 kB, this phone has the facility to automatically resize images so that they fit the MMS format. When using the camera for capturing video there is a maximum resolution of QCIF (176 x 144 pixels). It is possible to capture video with audio and to record video clips of up to 10 minutes in length. One useful feature is the Movie Director video editing application, which allows you to combine video clips to make up a sequence, add a dub-over soundtrack, and edit in some style changes such as titles and graphic images to create your own bit of artistic fun. Other camera features are a 4x digital zoom, a mirror and timer to help with self-portraits, and a night mode setting to assist you with taking pictures in poor light conditions.
With the built-in MP3, MPEG4 and RealOne Player™ you are provided with an opportunity to carry around some entertainment on your travels. You can download audio and video clips, or use live-streamed video and audio content. Also, as there is expandable memory capacity available, in the form of the reduced size MMC card (64 MB supplied), this enables you to carry a library of music with you. The RS-MMC cards offer you the possibility to use a generous amount of storage space to save videos, pictures, sounds, games and applications, and also your personal data. One possible drawback of the audio output is that it is monophonic only.
For those who like to personalise their phones, there are plenty of opportunities to customise the Nokia 7610. You can modify the outer appearance of the phone by using Nokia’s Xpress-on™ range of changeable covers and keymats, which co-ordinate with matching wrist straps, wallpapers and screensavers. It is also possible to download new wallpapers, screensavers, animations, logos, icons and ringtones from other websites, when you want to make a change to the sound and appearance of your phone.
As the 7610 is Java™ enabled, and it also supports the Symbian operating system, this allows you to select the applications and games that you wish to use from a wide range of available software. No Java™ games are preloaded in the phone, but it is easy to download these or other applications when you need them.
With the Nokia 7610’s built in GPRS technology you gain fast access to the network, and also have an “always on” connection. There is even the option of using either a WAP browser or the preloaded Opera browser. Opera makes accessing the mobile Internet easy, and as you browse the sites that interest you the browser programme reformats the page layout to make them fit the phone’s screen size. E-mail is also made straightforward, by the provision of an e-mail client that supports the standard e-mail protocols of POP3, IMAP4 and SMTP.
As you might expect with a well-specified phone, the Nokia 7610 has a choice of connection options available to you. The phone has integrated Bluetooth™ radio connectivity, which enables you to link up wirelessly with other compatible phones, PDAs or PCs within a 10-metre range. In addition, there is the other wireless option of using the phone’s infrared port for short-range connection with other equipment. Alternatively, you can always use a wired connection via a USB data cable plugged into the phone’s Pop-Port™ connector. Once connected you can then synchronise your personal data, or exchange files that you want to use, and the phone even supports remote over-the-air synchronisation using the SyncML system.
