Panasonic GD87 mobile phone

Panasonic GD87 is a tri-band clamshell mobile phone, and so is suitable for worldwide roaming. This model also includes the useful features of GPRS and WAP technology, MMS multimedia messaging, digital sound recorder, speakerphone for hands-free conversation, voice control, polyphonic ringtones, and an e-mail client.

Panasonic GD87There are dual LCD displays in this model. The larger internal active matrix TFT screen has a high resolution of 132 x 176 pixels, which can display up to 65,536 different colours, and this is the screen you use to select your menus and view pictures and games. On the outside of the case is a small monochrome display that can show 2 lines of text, and this is the screen you use to see who is calling before you open the phone.

An integrated camera is fitted in the GD87, and this offers a fairly basic picture resolution of 110k pixels. This camera has a 2x digital zoom, a night mode, adjustable exposure settings, and a mirror and timer to assist with self-portraits. If you wish you can use one of the available frames to enhance your photographs, and there are also 4 picture formats to choose from on this phone: Full Colour, Black and White, Sepia or Negative. You can take a picture with the camera, and then use the phone to send it to your contacts via an MMS message, or send it as an attachment to an email. Being MMS enabled you can create, send and receive messages containing a combination of picture, sound and text.

As is now expected, you can personalise the phone by using the different colour themes, wallpapers, and logos supplied, but you can also download new content when you feel the need to change its appearance to match your tastes. You can even use a picture taken with the phone’s camera as your own personal wallpaper. For the adventurous, there is a melody composer included in the phone, and this enables you to create your own unique ringtones. Another way to produce some unusual ringtones is to record your own with the integrated sound recorder. On the back of the phone there is space to insert a photograph under the transparent rear cover, for an additional element of personalisation.

To provide some entertainment on the move, the GD87 has one game embedded in the phone, and there is space for a further game to be downloaded so that 2 games are available to the user. However, if you download more games then they will overwrite the previously downloaded game.

With its integrated GPRS technology, the GD87 provides you with fast data handling and an “always on” connection, where you pay for the amount of data you use rather than the length of time connected. The phone also benefits from a WAP browser, which gives you access to the mobile Internet, and this allows you to use the many services and information sources now available to the mobile phone user, so that you can check out the latest news, sport, entertainment, travel, weather, or business updates. An e-mail client is also provided that supports the standard POP3 and SMTP protocols, and this enables you to use the normal e-mail services.

There is choice of connectivity to the GD87: either wirelessly via its infrared port, or alternatively by a data cable. After connection you can establish a link to your PC or other compatible device to exchange data and files, and you can then select which images you want to download. A link up with your computer, for example, gives you the opportunity to synchronise your phonebook and schedule entries. A reasonable capacity phonebook is provided which can store the details of 200 contacts, and you also get the usual organiser functions, including a calculator, currency converter, calendar, world clock, and alarm settings.
