Sharp GX30 mobile phone

Sharp GX30 is a quad-band cameraphone that is ideal for global roaming. Presented in a stylish clamshell design, this was Europe's first mobile phone with an integrated one mega-pixel camera. This phone also has many other useful and interesting features, including its Bluetooth™ wireless technology, MMS capability, Java™ enabled, onboard GPRS and WAP, voice memo recorder, MP3 music player, SD/MMC memory card slot, loudspeaker, and polyphonic ringtones.

Sharp GX30The dual displays are also significantly better than on most other mobile phones. The internal LCD is extra large and provides a high resolution 240 x 320 pixels (QVGA) screen, which supports up to 262,144 different colours. The external screen also has a good level of resolution at 64 x 96 pixels, and Sharp has given us a second display that supports up to 65,536 colours - significantly higher than usual. The external display enables you to quickly see the caller's identity.

The Sharp GX30 is setting a trend towards better cameras on mobiles phones, by offering users a one mega-pixel standard of resolution. This built-in camera is obviously an important feature of the phone, and it allows you to make acceptable 6 x 4 inch prints, although its resolution quality is still only at the bottom end of the range of current stand-alone digital cameras. However, one consequence of the large picture files, created by a one mega-pixel camera, is that the largest picture sizes cannot be transmitted by MMS messaging. With its 6x digital zoom, and choice of exposure and shutter speed settings, there is the opportunity to get the best shots you can obtain. There is also a built-in LED flashlight, that can be used with the camera in poor light conditions, or it may be used as a separate mobile light You can crop the photos you take with the camera, as you also might choose to do with the pictures you download or receive with messages, and then you can use them as your own personal wallpapers.

One other useful feature of the Sharp GX30 is its ability to capture video and play it back, or alternatively you may download video from elsewhere. The videos you create can then be played back on a PC using RealPlayer® software. With the phone's MMS capability you have the possibility to combine video, pictures, music or speech, and text to produce some very interesting personal messages to send to your friends and contacts.

Although this phone already has a good-sized internal memory of 6 MB, there is the added feature of a memory card slot, which enables you to store and carry around as many MP3 files as you wish. As a bonus an SD memory card of 8 MB is supplied, and the phone will support SD cards of up to 512 MB, or alternatively an MMC card of up to 128 MB. The SD/MMC card can be swapped to and from the handset when you need to use it, and it can be used to store MP3 files, picture files and ringtones. You can easily copy your stored files to a PC or other compatible device.

The Sharp GX30 is Java™ enabled, and so you are able to run both Java games and a wide range of applications for pleasure or business. There are 4 games preloaded in the phone, but you are able to download more games or applications, as you need them. Polyphonic ringtones may also be downloaded if you wish to personalise the phone to sound the way you like, and it is even possible to compose your own ringtones using the onboard Melody Editor - there is a good guide at www.sharp-mobile.com.

One feature of the Sharp GX30 that is becoming increasingly important is the wireless connectivity provided by its Bluetooth™ technology. With Bluetooth you are able to connect with similarly compatible devices such as PCs, PDAs and other mobile phones within a 10 metres range, and to communicate and share data with them. The other wireless technology in the phone is its infrared connectivity, and this method of data transfer may be used with devices that are compatible and infrared enabled. This phone can also use the other standard method of connection, via a wired link, and this is possible using a USB cable and connector.

The Sharp GX30 gives you good data handling with its "always on" GPRS technology, and the phone's WAP 2.0 browser allows you to gain an easy and fast access to the mobile Internet. As is usual these days, there are some excellent information and Web-based services available to mobile phone users from the many WAP sites.
