Siemens CF62 mobile phone

Siemens CF62 is a tri-band mobile phone with a stylish clamshell design, and it is suitable for worldwide roaming to most countries. This is Siemens first model in the clamshell format, and its styling is very simple and clean, with a loop aerial at the top of the handset that manages to look like it is part of the design, and which also provides a convenient means to attach it to a cord. This model comes in a choice of two colour schemes: “cool grey” and “cool cashmere”.

Siemens CF62Among the features in the CF62 are its integrated GPRS and WAP technology, MMS multimedia messaging, a speakerphone for hands-free conversations, voice control (you can record up to 20 voice tags to select phone functions or for voice dialling), active flip, Java™ enabled, an aircraft mode (to use those phone features that do not require transmission or reception of radio signals), and a choice of polyphonic ringtones.

The main internal display screen in the phone is an LCD with a resolution of 130 x 130 pixels, and this display can also reproduce up to 65,536 different colours. The smaller external monochrome display shows you details such as the time, date, details of who is calling, an indication of signal strength and battery condition, and it also displays symbols to give you additional warnings about your calls and calendar. Another feature to alert you to what the phone is doing are the seven LED event lights embedded in the sides of the case, which can be set to flash according to the rhythm you set, and so indicate various events, functions or warnings.

Although there is no integrated camera in this model, Siemens offer a plug-in QuickPic IQP-500 camera as an optional accessory. This accessory allows you take pictures of two qualities: VGA (640 x 480 pixels) or QQVGA (160 x 120 pixels). The optional camera also includes an integrated flashgun. It is a choice that you will have to make - whether you buy the accessory camera or not - because as the CF62 is MMS enabled you may feel deprived of the opportunity to exchange pictures with your friends. This phone can exchange MMS multimedia messages with other compatible phones, and these messages may include a combination of pictures and sounds with text. The beauty of MMS is that it enables you to create special messages that have more impact when you send them to your friends and contacts.

As the CF62 is Java™ enabled it can also run a wide range of Java applications and games. There are already 2 games preloaded in the phone, called “Wappo” and “Mobiloko”, but there is nothing to stop you downloading new games when you get tired of these two titles. There is also a range of other applications available, and it is worth checking out the options at the Siemens WAP portal.

As with most other recent mobile phones, you can customise this model by personalising it with new content, such as wallpapers, screensavers, animations, and polyphonic ringtones. Several pictures and animations are provided with the phone, but it easy to download new content when you need to find something unusual, and you will probably want to choose something special to enhance your phone. You can also download more images and sounds to spice up your MMS messages.

An important feature of this phone is its integrated GPRS technology, which provides you with fast access to the networks, and an “always on” connection. When combined with the WAP browser you gain good access to the mobile Internet, and there are now plenty of excellent WAP services available to the mobile phone user, such as news, weather, traffic, sports, entertainments, business, online shopping, and many more useful services and sources of information. The method of connectivity to the CF62 is via a RS232 serial data cable - an optional accessory. By connecting the phone to a PC you are able to transfer pictures and sounds between the two devices, and to carry out other operations such as synchronisation. You can download the Microsoft Windows™ program Data Exchange Software (DES) from the Siemens Web site www.siemens-mobile.com/cf62, and then use the cable link to synchronise the calendar, phonebook, etc with your home or office PC.

The usual personal organiser and other tools are supplied in the phone, including a calendar (reminder list), notes (for notepad jottings), calculator, currency converter, world clock, alarms, stopwatch, and countdown timer. The phone also supports vCard business cards and vCalendar appointments, and these can also be attached to MMS or SMS messages.
