Sony Ericsson K700i mobile phone

Sony Ericsson K700i is a tri-band cameraphone suitable for worldwide roaming, which is designed in the traditional candy bar format. With its attractive metallic finish this model has similar styling to others in the Sony Ericsson range, with the result that the handset has an appearance of being a mobile phone from the front and a digital camera from the back.

Sony Ericsson K700iAmong the Sony Ericsson K700i’s main features are its integrated Bluetooth™ technology, MMS messaging capability, built-in GPRS and WAP technology, FM stereo radio, voice memo recorder, MP3 and MPEG4 players, support for audio and video streaming, video capture download and playback, speakerphone for hands-free conversations, Java™ enabled, voice control, and a full e-mail client.

The phone has a TFT colour LCD display, which has a resolution of 176 x 220 pixels and can reproduce up to 65,536 different colours, and the screen provides the high definition needed to appreciate the still pictures and video that can be viewed on this phone.

The Sony Ericsson K700i supports MMS multimedia messaging, and this allows you to send and receive messages that contain a combination of animations, video clips, pictures and sound recordings, as well as text. Using Sony Ericsson’s QuickShare™ system you can easily and quickly send pictures taken with the camera to anywhere in the world, which means you are able to share some special moment or holiday experiences with your contacts.

The phone’s integrated camera is capable of taking both still pictures as well as video. Three picture sizes are available for photographs, up to a maximum of VGA quality (640 x 480 pixels), and for video there are two possible picture sizes, the best quality being QCIF (176 x 144 pixels). There are several other options available from the camera, such as a picture editor with some special effects and a 4x digital zoom, and to help take photographs in poor light conditions there is a built-in flashlight and a night mode exposure setting. A mirror and timer are provided to assist with self-portraits, and you can also create a panorama picture by merging 3 pictures into one.

For music on the move the Sony Ericsson K700i has an onboard Media Player that supports MP3 and MPEG4. This means you have the capability to enjoy your own MP3’s on this phone, and you can also play streamed or downloaded audio and video clips. Information about the current track or video that is playing can be viewed on the display, and as with other well-featured music machines you also have the facility to select the playback order of your song tracks, or to set the tracks to play randomly.

With its integrated FM radio, the Sony Ericsson K700i also gives you the opportunity to listen to your favourite radio stations while you are travelling about. The stations can be tuned in either manually or by using the automatic search facility. After you have selected the stations you like, then simply save them as presets to make it easy to find them again. When using the radio you will need to connect the headset to the phone, as the headset lead acts as an aerial.

There are plenty of opportunities for you to personalise the phone to your own requirements, by downloading new ringtones, logos, screensavers and wallpapers from the many Web sites that offer suitable content. The phone comes preloaded with some polyphonic ringtones, but if you wish you can download more from the Web, or you can compose and edit your own ringtones using the built-in Music DJ™ application, which is a 4-track music sequencer.

The Sony Ericsson K700i is Java™ enabled, and this feature means that you are able to run Java applications and games. Some games come preloaded in the phone, but it is possible to download more when you feel like a change, and you can also download new applications that you need for business or personal use.

The phone’s integrated GPRS technology provides you with fast data transfer to the network and an “always on” connection, which has the added advantage that you pay for the amount of data you actually use rather than for the time connected. With WAP, and the support of a cHTML browser, you are in possession of the tools you need to access and make good use of the information and services available on the mobile Internet. This phone gives you the chance to enjoy entertainment, sports, news, weather, traffic and business services on offer from the many WAP sites. A further feature that has become more common on new mobile phones is the provision of a full e-mail client service, and this phone supports the standard e-mail protocols of POP3, IMAP4 and SMTP.

There are several connectivity options available for linking the Sony Ericsson K700i to other compatible devices. The phone has integrated Bluetooth™ technology to connect wirelessly by radio to other phones, PCs and PDAs within a 10-metre range, and the other wireless option supported is to use the phone’s infrared port to exchange data. The phone can also be connected by wire using standard USB or RS232 data cable connection leads. Once you have established a connection you can synchronise your personal information, e.g. phonebook entries or schedules, or exchange files, pictures and sounds. The phone also supports remote synchronisation over the network using SyncML. The file manager in the phone works in a similar way to Windows Explorer on a PC, and so you can use the simple drag and drop method when you want to transfer files.
