Site help - Glossary of terms
Skip contentYou can find the definition you are looking for by either using the site search, or via the left hand navigation.
Site search
The search box is located to your left above the left-hand navigational panel.
Type the term you are looking for into the search box. The search engine is not case-sensitive and understands both misspelled and incomplete entries.
Then select the "find" button. You can do that by left-clicking your mouse, or pressing the "enter" key on your keyboard.
The search results will appear in the main content area, listed in descending order according to their relevancy to your query. In many cases the results will contain not only the glossary entries, but also articles from other areas of the site that matched your query. The brackets after the search result name the area the result is located in.
Left-hand navigation
The left-hand navigation is split into two levels. The top level contains the alphabet. The alphabet is always visible, regardless of the glossary page you are on.
When you hover over a letter with your mouse, both the letter and its background change colour, and a small tooltip box will appear. If you use keyboard, you will see a thin dotted border around a letter you are focused on. If you use screenreader, it will read both the letter and the link title to you.
You can select the letter your entry begins with by either left-clicking your mouse, or pressing "enter" on your keyboard.
After you selected your letter, it will change its colour and background and will remain highlighted until you select another letter. At the same time the second level of navigational links will appear in the now empty panel to the right of the letters.
The panel will contain all entries listed under that letter.
The entries behave in the same way as the letters - they will change their colour and background when you hover over them, a tooltip box will appear, change a border on focus when using keyboard, and a screenreader will read the entries to you.
When you found the entry you were looking for, select it by mouse or keyboard. The selected definition will appear in the main content area. The words within the definition with matching entries in the glossary will be underlined. These are links to those matching entries.
Below the definition will be a number of links to other definitions in the glossary, or other areas of the site, indicating articles related to the definition by subject area.
