Cameraphones - Video cameras

Some cameraphones also provide the facility to record video (with or without accompanying sound), although the reproduction is usually at a reduced resolution and with poorer picture quality than a still photograph.

The potential buyer should consider the quality of the video before choosing which phone to buy, as the best video recording capability is currently about 15 fps, although some phones can only manage 8fps, which will produce a noticeably jumpy sequence. Another important consideration is that video uses a lot of memory, and most phones with a video feature can only record relatively short sequences. If the video clips are intended for sending as part of a MMS message, then a sequence of 10 seconds is about the maximum length you can send in a standard 100 kB MMS message.

There are greater bandwidth and video possibilities available from 3G cameraphones, which enable the phone user to engage in two-way video call conversations. Some of these 3G videophones even contain two integrated cameras, with one of the cameras being dedicated to showing the user’s face during the video call.
